*** Breaking News! ***

Decibel was featured in the BBC show Panorama - The Worlds longest running investigative TV show on April 20! The host Quentin Letts use Decibel on his iPhone to measure decibel levels in regards to UKs health and safety regulations. Check it out on http://tinyurl.com/decibelonbbc

*** iPod Touch users! ***

Please note that the iPod Touch doesnt have a built in mic! You will need an iPhone Headset or similar to be able to use Decibel. Most of the bad reviews are due to this fact. So please dont judge Decibel based on that. Thank you!

Pros and cons of Decibel app for iPhone and iPad

Decibel app good for

It might not be a professional sound meter, but its a great tool to give a sense of how louds things might be.
This app does one simple task - measure the sound level around you. And the readout is also dead simple. But it does it very well, and youd be surprised how often you will open it - its one of my most used apps. And you cant complain about the price. Thanks Tomas!
This is one of my favorite apps out of fifty or more since it goes beyond amusment. It works very well and does what it says. I am always pulling it out to check the sound levels. It is amazing how noisy the city is where we live. I have yet to try it out in the country somewhere. I was quite surprised to compare the daytime to nightime sound levels. Plus it is fun to watch how gunshots and sirens make it spike!! : ) This app stays on my main page with my other often used practical apps. I have even used it to check the sound levels in our wood shop with different tools running. Along with sound levels in my metal studio at times.
A totally excellent app with a clean/nice interface. The app itself also seems to provide relatively accurate readings when referenced against dedicated equipment. Good job
I havent really had a chance to try it except yelling in to it. The meter shows that it goes to 110 but it doesnt go past 105.
Does what it says pretty well. Spinning around the phone to aim mic is a bit touchy and works best when stationary. Overall clean design

Some bad moments

any longer since iOS 8 and newer. Had this for years. No update, no communication. Very disappointing...
iPhone mix only "works" to 105 db, after which it clips. So the app works as well as the iPhone hardware will allow. Havent checked accuracy yet, but it feels as though its in the ballpark. Would like to know what weighting it uses (if any).
The level is 80 for both a classroom and a rock concert. That doesnt make sense
Peak at 105 all the time not suitable for measuring fast loud noise bursts always shows 105 wishing for a update to fix this.
It works very well on my iPhone 4 running iOS 7, doesnt work with my new iPhone 5s. Disappointed, because it had worked well all these years.
Worked years ago, and then I havent used it for a quite a while. But I tried it now and it seems like it isnt supported anymore and wont work with current iOS.
